The majority of the Kindergarten class is reading independently! During the first part of the year the students learned about nouns and verbs which greatly helped in the development of basic sentence structure. Spelling tests are held weekly and the students' handwriting is impeccable.
In Math students are writing number sentences, finding the missing addend, and working on two digit addition and subtraction as well as doing fractions, measurement and time. Additionally they know the value and can recognize a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter and a dollar. Students count by twos, fives and tens to 100. They also count to 20 in Spanish. Everyone is counting well into the hundreds and learning place value.
Most of the class can identify all 50 states on a blank map and many can name the capitals as well. We look forward to story writing, writing a three page booklet and keeping a journal.
